Attorney-General are shew.
2.
I shall forward Sir H. V. de
Saugmarez's reply to the letter I have addressed to him as
soon as I receive it, and I shall be glad to receive
your instructions as to what steps should be taken to meet
the points raised by Sir F. Piggott at your earliest
convenience as the present unsettled condition consequenti-
-al on Sir F. Piggott's judgment is causing serious in-
-convenience and may affect the revenue of the Colony
which derives a substantial annual sum from fees for
licences for local registration.
I learn in fact from a private
letter of the 25th. instant from Sir H. W. de Saugmarez
that the Shanghai Community is thinking of asking for a
local registry.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Sangare
Governor,&c..
